Presentation title
An Evolutionary Assessment of Megawatt Scale Wind Turbine Components: Is There Still Room for Optimization?
Presentation summary
Wind turbines constitute the highest percentage of CAPEX for the development of a wind energy project. Therefore, for the last couple of decades OEMs focus on optimizing the cost of their wind turbine models through all phases of their product development cycle. One of the main aspects of this optimization starts on the component level. The aim of this study is to assess the current status of megawatt scale wind turbine components such as towers, gearboxes, yaw and pitch systems, etc. and comment on the pathway for future wind turbine designs. Whether the component is manufactured internally or procured externally from an accredited supplier, component level optimization becomes critical.
