AWIF Presentation title
Delburn Wind Farm – Latrobe Valley’s first state-owned utility scale wind farm
AWIF Presentation summary
As one of a handful of Australian wind projects to gain FID status in 2025 – and the only one in Victoria – SEC is excited to share our progress, construction timeline and positive ambition for the Delburn Wind Farm. The project, now 100% owned by SEC, will be the state’s first state-owned utility-scale wind farm. This presentation will outline how SEC’s +$600m investment in the 33 turbine, 205 MW project aligns with our market enablement agenda and demonstrates that the business case for wind energy generation in Victoria remains strong. The wind farm, which overlooks the former Hazelwood Mine site in the Latrobe Valley, has the potential to be a beacon for renewable energy generation investment in the Valley and wider Gippsland region – the heart of Victoria’s power generation. The presentation will outline the importance of a foundation developer partnership, existing (positive) community relationships, existing workforce and services and how flexibility is key to identify and move through key challenges. For the Delburn Wind Farm, these challenges were particularly around port infrastructure, local content and supplier negotiations to ensure turbine design will meet requirements for building the wind farm within an existing pine plantation. While wind farm and plantation co-location is common in Europe, Delburn will be the first of its kind in Australia.
