Contracting for Complexity: Navigating the Shift from EPC to Multi-Contract Structures in Wind Projects
AWIF Presentation summary
The wind sector is undergoing a significant shift in how projects are contracted. Traditional EPC models are giving way to split OEM/BOP and multi-contract arrangements, driven by contractor capacity constraints, risk allocation challenges, and the sheer scale of projects being developed. While these structures can unlock cost and schedule benefits, they introduce new layers of complexity for developers, especially when financial close occurs infrequently and in-house procurement teams are lean.
This presentation will provide a focused, practical view of what’s changing and why, and outline the tools needed to succeed in this new environment. It will examine the benefits and risks of different contracting models, the governance and project controls required to manage interfaces, and the distinction between government-led programs and private-sector approaches. Drawing on real-world experience, the session will offer actionable insights for developers and stakeholders preparing for multi-contract delivery.
