AWIF Presentation title
Wind wonderings
AWIF Presentation summary
Australia’s National Electricity Market [NEM] is facing a fundamental overhaul in the way we have historically generated, transported and consumed power. Critical to the transition is the wind investment that must be brought online to allow coal to exit. System planning exercises typically see wind make up a majority of an efficient energy mix. This talk will unpack the pivotal, and often misunderstood and understated, role wind investment plays in driving the energy transition. A large part of this analysis will involve showing the unique role that wind plays relative to other technologies, the high cost of substituting other renewables in place of it, and the massive value that wind will likely earn over the coming decades. We will present cutting edge quantitative analysis that shows the value of wind to the system under a range of spot price scenarios.
