Presentation title
Energy Solutions for Data Centres - Lessons Learnt
Presentation summary
Exponential market growth in data centres is a huge opportunity for investment in a mature industry that is scaling up. Bigger and better data centre facilities are a natural progression to build scale and reduce cost. It is sourcing the electrical power however that can be challenging, not least with more powerful, densified IT that also has a greater cooling load. As such the energy solution for a data centre has become an increasingly important topic. High capacity grid connections are challenging to secure and can mean nonviable lead times of five or more years. Many data centre developers are therefore carefully considering the energy solution. Hybrid, microgrid, captive energy centres are a more common prospect to provide continuous power in a similar way to a grid connection. These require careful consideration by experts across multiple energy vectors. This presentation navigates the choices faced with energy supply to data centers and provides insights into recently developed Behind the Meter Energy Solutions for Data Centres in the UK.
