Keynote: Bridging the Tenor Gap: design of the Electricity Services Entry Mechanism
Presentation summary
This keynote will explore the draft report of the NEM Wholesale Market Settings Review and its proposed long-term investment mechanism, the Electricity Services Entry Mechanism (ESEM). The ESEM aims to bridge the investment “tenor gap” - a mismatch in the contracting horizons of buyers and sellers - through standardised long-dated contracts that are recycled back into the market, offering greater certainty for investors while maintaining the NEM’s energy-only foundation and allowing participants to manage risk. The session will highlight the NEM Review Panel’s latest thinking on how the ESEM could operate to improve market liquidity, extend observable pricing and build the investment confidence needed for the energy transition.
