Peter Wheale is Managing Director and SVP Sales for Nextpower across Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. He is responsible for the company’s commercial strategy, strategic customer relationships and continued growth across the region.
Peter established Nextpower’s Australian operations in 2016, at a time when the utility-scale solar market was still emerging. Over the past decade, he has built a high-performing regional team spanning sales, engineering, project delivery and customer support. He works closely with developers, EPCs, asset owners and utilities to deliver some of the region’s largest and most complex renewable-energy projects.
Under Peter’s leadership, Nextpower has established a leading position in the Australian market, with more than 12 GW deployed across over 200 projects that are operational or under fulfilment. As Nextpower continues to expand beyond solar tracking, Peter is leading the introduction of the company’s broader technology platform - including structural, electrical, digital, power-conversion and energy-storage solutions - across Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.
With more than 18 years of experience in the solar and renewable-energy sector across North America and Australia, Peter brings extensive commercial, technical and market expertise to utility-scale energy development. He was named one of The Australian’s Top 100 Green Power Players in 2023 and 2024.
Peter is recognised for building trusted industry relationships, developing high-performing teams and creating partnerships that support the delivery of reliable, scalable and lower-cost renewable energy. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from the University of San Francisco.
