Dr Iain MacGill is a Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at UNSW Sydney, and Joint Director (Engineering) for the University’s Collaboration on Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM).
Iain’s teaching and research interests at UNSW include electricity industry restructuring and the Australian National Electricity Market, sustainable energy generation technologies, distributed energy resources, energy access and renewables deployment in developing countries with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region, energy and climate policy and energy sector industry transition.
CEEM itself undertakes interdisciplinary research in the monitoring, analysis and design of energy markets and associated regulatory and policy frameworks. Iain leads work in CEEM’s research theme on Sustainable Energy Transition, including energy technology assessment, renewable energy integration and energy sector transition planning frameworks in Australia and the Asia Pacific. The team particularly focuses on the development of open source energy modelling tools to support clean energy transition planning and implementation.
